Construction Careers Are Everywhere

Give your career a boost with training for a career that will always be in demand. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics believes that "job opportunities are expected to be good for those construction workers with the most experience and skill." This will be due, in part, to "population growth, deteriorating infrastructure, and aging buildings," the BLS continued.

According to the BLS:

The number of wage and salary jobs in the construction industry is expected to grow 19 percent through the year 2018, compared with the 11 percent projected for all industries combined.

What this means for you is:

  • Regardless of the recession, jobs in the construction field will grow in the coming years
  • Construction is set to grow more than any other industry
  • New buildings will add to the growth in construction jobs, but so will the renovation of buildings.

Residential construction should increase "moderately" as the population grows, the BLS adds, while non-residential construction also will grow due to the need to revamp aging industrial plants and buildings.

But the largest job growth for those taking roofing classes will occur in the "specialty trades," according to the BLS, adding that [h]ome improvement and repair construction is expected to continue even as new home construction slows. Remodeling should provide many new jobs because of a growing stock of old residential buildings. Many older, smaller homes will be remodeled to appeal to more affluent buyers interested in more space and amenities.

In a nutshell, according to the BLS, construction work in remodeling and renovation will continue even if the work in new-home construction declines.

Roofing Classes May Lead to a Better Income

You may be considering construction training because you heard that the field pays well. You are quite correct!

General construction and especially construction management work over "higher than average" earnings than "the average for all industries," according to the BLS. What's more, the BLS continues, [i]n 2008, production or nonsupervisory workers in construction averaged $21.87 an hour, or about $842 a week. In general, the construction trades workers needing more education and training, such as electricians and plumbers, get paid more than construction trades workers requiring less education and training, including laborers and helpers.

Translation: the more skills you acquire, the more you may earn! Earning an associate's degree in our Building and Construction Training Program will show employers you have the technical skills and expertise that commands a higher salary.
