Commercial Truck Driving
The objective of the commercial truck driving course is to qualify students for entry level positions as drivers in over-the-road or local driving vehicles. The focus of the course is on basic information about trucks, truck driving, and the trucking industry and the fundamentals of operating trucks and tractor trailers. No prior education or experience with trucks is required. The student, however, must meet the driver qualifications set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and pass the physical examination requirements set forth by the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.).

New Castle School of Trades offers a Class A Commercial Driving Course for those students wanting to obtain a CDL (commercial drivers license). The Class A being the top of the tier of truck driving licenses with which you can drive any type of vehicle once the proper endorsements are obtained. Class time is utilized to teach safety, map reading, GPS utilization, and log book rules.
Students then progress to the driving range where the skills of backing, docking, parallel parking, and loading/unloading are practiced. The bulk of the course is spent on the road giving the students plenty of “seat time” to acquire the skills necessary to pass the driving exam. Drivers will test on our own testing site located at Truck Testing Services at the schools address. An exciting career with excellent job opportunities awaits our graduates in this field!

Graduates of the Commercial Truck Driving program will be able to assume entrylevel positions as local and over-the-road tractor-trailer drivers, delivery truck drivers, van drivers, dump truck drivers, and drivers of other vehicles relating to the transport industry.
During the course of study students will train and practice in tractor-trailers similar to those found in the trucking industry.
