The Fundamentals of Welding

Welding is the practice of joining metals together and forming strong joints for the sake of construction projects both large and small. When looking around, you would have a hard time finding something that didn’t need the touch of a welder to be built. From the cars we drive to the buildings we live and work in, welded surfaces are an important part of our society’s infrastructure.

The need for skilled professionals only continues to grow with time. However, because the process is so involved, the welding training required to gain field expertise is intensive and necessitates comprehensive learning and hands-on practice. These skills can only be acquired by attending welding courses from a trusted welding school. These courses emphasize practicing essential skills while using industry-standard tools similar to what you would encounter in the real world. New Castle School of Trades welding school in East Liverpool, OH can provide just that.

Skills Training for Welding Certification

When an individual commits to attending a welding trade school, they commit to learning the different types of welding training practices. These include ARC welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and the various subsets of each of these types.

  • TIG Welding– A process generally used for welding together thinner sections of stainless steel as well as other metals like copper, aluminum, and magnesium. This process is often favored for the level of control that the welder has, which can lead to stronger, higher-quality welds in the end.
  • MIG Welding– This process is preferred for its versatility as well as its speed and how easy it is to learn compared to other techniques, like TIG welding and arc welding.
  • Arc Welding– This form relies on a high-energy power supply to create the electric arc, which is the breakdown of a gas that produces the ongoing discharge of plasma needed to melt the materials together. Its low cost and the fact that many of its products have a wide range of applications make this one of the most commonly used methods.

If you have any interest in the welding field, this is the place to come. Staff and students are all friendly and welcoming. If you’re looking to start a new career path, don’t wait any longer!

Beyond knowing the techniques, a competent welder must also be familiar with the tools of the trade. Once you’ve completed NCST’s welding school courses and enter the job field, a new welder can expect to regularly encounter tools like:

  • Electric arc welders
  • Gas metal arc welders
  • Flux core arc welders
  • Gas tungsten arc welders
  • Pipe bevellers

  • Portable burning equipment
  • Hydraulic shears
  • Reciprocating saws
  • Hand-operated grinders

All of these welding training tools are necessary for getting many welding tasks completed. By training with these tools throughout NCST’s welding courses, an individual will be ready to implement them the minute they graduate.
