5 Essential Things to Know About Our Truck Driving Courses

Steps You Need to Take

If you have a strong work ethic and are looking for an adventurous job that allows you to travel across the country, then a career in truck driving may be the perfect next step for you. Here at the New Castle School of Trades, we’re proud to offer an accredited truck driving program for prospective drivers to learn the ins and outs of the trucking industry. We offer Class A CDL training at our New Castle, PA Campus. Before you choose to dive into our program, there are some essential things you should know.

1. You’ll Earn Your Commercial Driver’s License

To become a truck driver, you must first attend truck driving classes and complete training to earn your commercial driver’s license (CDL).

A commercial driver’s license goes beyond your basic driver’s permit. It’s imperative for all truck drivers to have their CDL because this specific license is required to operate large, heavy vehicles or tractor-trailers for commercial use.

Why Is a Commercial Driver’s License Needed?

It’s all about safety. Driving a vehicle that weighs thousands of pounds comes with a lot more responsibilities than driving a regular car. With a commercial driver’s license earned and courses completed, you’ll be able to properly operate a truck, read roadmaps, know essential aspects of tractor-trailers, and more.

2. You Can Drive for a Number of Industries

Once you’ve learned how to become a truck driver and have earned your CDL, there are many different industries you will be qualified to drive for. Various entry-level positions will be available to you, such as, but not limited to:

  • Delivery driver
  • Van driver
  • Tractor-trailer driver
  • Dump truck driver

3. You Can Attend Training on Your Own Schedule

If you’re interested in completing classes but you’re worried about fitting them into a busy lifestyle, you can take relief in knowing that we offer our training courses at a variety of times to accompany a variety of busy schedules.

Depending on how often you attend classes per week, you can earn your CDL in as little as six weeks. Here at the New Castle, PA Campus, we have both full and part-time classes.

Full-time Truck Driving Courses:

  • Monday through Friday
  • 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Completed in as little as 6 weeks

Part-time Truck Driving Courses:

  • Saturday and Sunday
  • 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Completed in 15 weeks

Our truck driving program is divided into three parts: driver safety and procedures, basic operation, and operating practices. To learn more specific information about our program and these sections, view our commercial truck driving program outline.

4. You’ll Earn a Worthwhile Salary

Once you’ve completed our training program, you’ll be qualified to earn a respectable salary in various entry-level positions. By receiving your education at a commercial truck driving school, you’ll receive a leg-up over other prospective employees. This will give you a chance to start earning a good salary on a quicker basis. Salaries for truck drivers can increase based on the amount of experience and education you have. Acquiring both of those through your training at NCST in Pennsylvania or Ohio will only help you.

5. You’ll Have a Life-long Career

Learning how to become a truck driver will not only propel you onto the path of a rewarding career, it can also guarantee career longevity. Education within the trucking industry and a commercial driver’s license on top of a clean driving record benefit drivers greatly, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Commercial transportation is economically in-demand and will continue to be for hundreds of industries such as oil and gas, which need goods delivered and materials transported across the country. A career within this field offers financial stability and is projected to continue doing so, providing drivers with the assurance that a trucking career can be life-long if they so desire.
